Respect is something we expect to receive from other people, but the real question is – do we respect ourselves?
You may not even realize it, but you could be displaying some of the many signs of disrespect to the person staring at you in the mirror.
Ask yourself whether you can relate to any of the following:
1. You Put On An Act For The Outside World
You will hide your true self from the world because you are scared that the society will not accept you the way you are.
2. You Speak Badly About Yourself
When you are always recognizing only flaws about yourself, you tend to forget the great qualities that you possess. You will start criticizing yourself and compare with others. Why can’t I be as pretty as her? I wish I could be more like that. You will criticize yourself with negative self-talk.
3. You Put Others Ahead Of Yourself
“Be there for others, but never leave yourself behind.” ~Dodinsky
You will put your needs and wants behind and making sacrifices for the people around you.
4. You Do Not Speak Up When Hurt
You will sit back and say nothing when you are hurt because you may think that staying silent keeps you from being involved in any conflict.
5. You Stay Friendly With People Who Do Not Respect You
You will associate people who are Liars, cheaters, time wasters and manipulators. You will know that these people do not value your time, money or reputation but will still consider them as friends.
6. You Seek The Approval Of Others
The need for approval kills freedom.
You will seek and value the opinions, beliefs and needs of others above your own. Their opinion is far more important to you than your own view.
7. You Take Responsibility For Things That Are Out Of Your Control
You will blame yourself for other people’s problems. You will constantly apologize for things which aren’t your fault or your responsibility.
8. You Look At Others In Envy
You will feel jealous of other people’s appearance, talents, relationships and you wish to be more like them.
You will become happier when other people fail in their life.
9. You Judge Other People
You make judgments based on what you see, not on facts. You don’t like yourself well enough and you need to be negative about someone else in order to feel better about yourself.
10. You Don’t Believe In Yourself
“When you doubt your power, you give power to your doubt.” ~Honore de Balzac
You will feel adversity and self-doubt, which means you are lacking self-confidence. You have little or no power to express your thoughts, beliefs and needs.
If you found yourself in any of these signs, start doing things differently and reverse your way of life.
“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.” – Roy T. Bennett
