One Chinese airline has recently introduced elegant haute couture gear for its flight attendants, taking their crew uniforms to the next level.

At the Paris Couture Week, Hainan Airlines debuted its new look. Laurence Xu designed the outfits based on the ‘Cheongsam,’ traditional Chinese clothing used by ladies for more formal events. It includes images of ancient Chinese art, such as paintings of clouds, waves, and the Roc, their fabled bird of prey. For a more contemporary and cosmopolitan design, all of this is combined with Western-style draping.

“Hainan Airlines and Lawrence Xu have an industry-leading partnership. We are not only designing a new uniform but also displaying our airline’s internationalized image. “We want to show passengers that China is contemporary and stylish, especially on foreign flights,” said Xu Fei, Hainan Airlines’ brand director.

Men’s outfits are more conventional and Western-looking, with double-breasted overcoats and undertones of Chinese culture.
