SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated television series created by Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. SpongeBob was originally named SpongeBoy. However, that name was already trademarked. So Nickelodeon held a preview for the series in the United States on May 1, 1999, following the television airing of the 1999 Kids’ Choice Awards. In 2018, so many SpongeBob fans were shattered by the news of the creator’s death. Stephen McDannell Hillenburg was an American animator, voice actor, and marine biologist. He passed away at the age of 57 on November 26, 2018. His death was due to motor neuron disease (also known as ALS) — a condition he had been diagnosed within March 2017. In order to remember his talents, there are so many internet users who started sharing their favorite memes. A lot of artists joined in with their drawings as a tribute to the cartoonist.

This year marks the anniversary of SpongeBob Squarepants and Nickelodeon didn’t forget to honor this important date.
