Olga Ziemska is a Polish-American sculptor and public artist who uses natural elements to create sculptures. In her continuing project Stillness in Motion: The Matka Series, the artist builds stunning sculptures of women from tree branches.
The artist claims she got the concept for the artwork when visiting Poland in 2003. After discovering that her art connected with people, she decided to keep constructing the figurines.

Olga is now exploring how the natural surroundings and the local natural materials. She uses to create her sculptures to affect the look and tone of each work.

Olga has made sculptures in countries like Romania and Korea, usually using local materials. This may help us understand how our natural surroundings impact us and help us create our culture and identity, adds the artist. “It may reveal how our environment affects us and shapes who we are.”

“The environment around me provides me with all of the materials, ingredients, and situations I need to produce art and be inspired,” Olga explains. “I believe that paying attention, being open and responsive, and maintaining an inquisitive, awe-filled viewpoint on the world around you are essential to creativity and the creative process.”

Olga describes herself as a perpetual observer. “I’m frequently the outsider looking in,” says the artist, “left to silently glance at the world revolving around me with a sensitive sense to times when intriguing and freshly found connections are established, and new ideas come out.”

Olga says that her job as an artist is to observe these moments as frequently as possible, acknowledge them, and synthesize them into a tangible or visible form. “The act of creating is very inspirational in and of itself,” the artist explains.
