TikTok users have started to share a valuable message with their followers, which is to wash your strawberries! A lot of TikTok users have started to share videos on how to wash berries the correct way. But the surprising fact is, many people haven’t been washing berries properly all this time. It turns out that most were simply unaware of the existence of hundreds of bugs living on berries.
To get the little critters out of the fruits, you just have to follow some simple procedures. First, make the fruits sit in saltwater for about half an hour, and if necessary add some vinegar too. This helps to get all the dirt and tiny bugs out of the fruit. All of us probably wash our strawberries before eating, but most of us just rinse the fruits. That’s not enough. The bitter truth is, though this is painful to say, we all have been eating tiny bugs without knowing about them, for years.

How long you should keep the strawberries in saltwater varies from person to person. While some say that 5 minutes are enough, others say that they should be soaked up to half an hour. And after salting, you should definitely rinse them before eating.

While some internet users suggest that it’s better to use cold water, soaking the fruits in hot water makes more sense because salt dissolves faster in it. There’s also something more to worry about other than bugs. If the strawberries aren’t organic and are grown using pesticides, adding some white vinegar to the water helps to minimize the extent of chemicals you consume.
