Peculiarium is a Portland, Oregon-based art gallery. The gallery recently updated the artwork in the backdrop of Donald Trump’s press pictures with something a bit more unusual.

In a recent interview, Peculiarium’s Mike Wellins said he was horrified by Trump’s victory. “I had to do something as an artist, so I made angry memes,” the artist stated. “Is it for myself or others? I don’t know had to do something. I have black friends, Mexican relatives, am half-Jewish, and pals from all around the globe, and nationalism is insane. Republicans are out of control and anti-American.

Mike has always liked cartoons and posters. He argues that the cliche “a picture is worth a thousand words” has never been more accurate. Hence, I create political memes. The tradition extends to muckrakers like Upton Sinclair, and memes, like cartoons, are designed for people who can’t read.
