The Starry Night is a painting by Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch painter who completed it in 1889. It is typically regarded as one of the most well-known works of Western art, and it has influenced countless artists throughout history — not only painters.
Truman Cheng, aka legotruman, a LEGO enthusiast from Hong Kong, recently joined the LEGO Ideas competition to reconstruct The Starry Night. His invention was chosen to be made into a set!
Truman Cheng, a LEGO aficionado, recreated Van Gogh’s The Starry Night using LEGO bricks.

This is how the original 1889 artwork appears.

Truman explains, “The set re-imagines the original artwork in a 3D scenario, with a heavy focus on the artist’s trademark brush strokes and color choice.”

Truman’s kit includes a brush, easel, painting palette, and a miniature printed replica of The Starry Night.
Even a tiny representation of Van Gogh himself is included in the set.

In an interview with LEGO, Truman previously said that he began fascinated with LEGO when he was approximately 5 or 6 years old. He claims that it is more than simply toys to him and that it reminds him of painting. ” I can express myself, to create characters and sculptures out of my thoughts. “It’s a wonderfully pleasant experience where I can forget about the little problems of everyday life and lose myself in my imagination,” the guy adds.
There are 1552 pieces in the set.

Truman said that the artist’s work had long attracted him when he opted to replicate The Starry Night. “The one-of-a-kind colors and brushwork just catch one’s mind,” the guy remarks. “Many new artists are inspired by his life story and entire devotion to his craft.”

Truman was playing with LEGO bits when he noticed that stacking bricks at random intervals resembled Van Gogh’s famous brush strokes. “With this construction style, I couldn’t help but imagine what the complete painting would look like,” the guy added. “I continued to develop and tweak until I arrived at the model you see in the project.”
