Normally the pigeons that are seen regularly aren’t considered to be beautiful. There are about 300 species of them and among them, Goura victoria or the Victoria Crown Pigeon very beautiful. These birds with the white-tipped feather crest are very royal-looking. As per sources, these birds has their name after the Queen Victoria of the 19th century, and they are native to the New Guinea region.

Though what makes them special is their crest, they have a good look too. Along with the crest, the Blue-grey feathers, super red eyes with a black eyeball and the maroon color chest is what makes them look good. There are 3 crowned pigeon species and among them, these Victoria Crown Pigeons have a clear crest and by that only they are distinguished among the 3 species. And the crowns of the other 2 species look like a hair nest.

All the crown species are usually large, but this species is the largest that survives. They weigh 7.7 pounds and are 30 inches long. If compared the common pigeons are about half of their height and the weight is about 1 pound. As their size maybe they eat a lot too. They are in love with figs and also fallen fruits are a part of their diet.

They are in groups as they love company. Unless they are disturbed they walk in forests finding food to eat. But sadly they have hard to find and become rare birds in the wild. They have been hunt down for feathers and meat they are on the threat. And are now in the IUNC Red List as Near Threatened.
